Dr. Jane Jih Appointed to the Advisory Committee on Minority Health of the U.S. Office of Minority Health
ARCH Co-Director Dr. Jane Jih is starting a 4-year term as a member of the U.S. Office of Minority Health Advisory Committee on Minority Health, advising the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Minority Health on improving the health of racial and ethnic minority populations.

ARCH members Drs. Phillip Yang (first author) and Janice Tsoh had a poster abstract accepted to the American Psychiatry Association Annual Meeting in New York City in May 2024 titled “Racial/Ethnic Disparities in Anxiety Disorder Development Post COVID-19 Infection and in Remdesivir Treatment among Minorities with Anxiety Disorder.”

The 2023 ARCH Symposium on November 8 was a big success! Dr. Supriya Misra, Assistant Professor of Public Health, and Dr. Zubaida Qamar, Associate Professor of Nutrition and Dietetics, hosted a successful Asian Health Symposium at San Francisco State University on November 8, 2023, supported by the Asian Research Center on Health and the Health Equity Institute. The event brought together a dynamic blend of speakers, students, community members, researchers, and mentors, fostering a collaborative space for knowledge exchange and meaningful connections. Dr. Arnab Mukherjea was recently appointed Faculty Fellow for the Health Professions at the CSU Office of the Chancellor. This position was created to understand the distinct pathways in which individuals from diverse backgrounds would consider, apply for and have an increased likelihood of success in securing an appointment as a tenure-track faculty member in a health-related discipline at a CSU campus.

Scarlett Lin Gomez, PhD, MPH named 2023 Christopher N.H. Jenkins Cancer Control Awardee & Lecture Date
Scarlett Lin Gomez, PhD, MPH has been named the 2023 Christopher N.H. Jenkins Cancer Control Awardee. The Christopher N.H. Jenkins Cancer Control Award is an annual, endowed award to recognize an individual who has made significant accomplishments in community-oriented cancer prevention and control efforts targeting Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Dr. Gomez is a UCSF Professor of Epidemiology & Biostatistics and Director of the Greater Bay Area Cancer Registry and the NCI Surveillance Epidemiology End Results (SEER) Program. She will be giving her lecture, "Re-Envisioning Cancer Research in Asian American Populations: Data and Community" on Thursday, October 26, 2023 via Zoom between 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM PT.

Janice Tsoh, PhD
Janice Tsoh, PhD receives an Invitational Research Fellowship Award from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science
ARCH Co-Director Dr. Janice Tsoh has received an Invitational Research Fellowship Award from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science to study mental health needs and service utilization among Chinese immigrants in Japan. In July 2023, Dr. Tsoh started her 10-month research fellowship at Toho University Faculty of Medicine in Tokyo, Japan.

ARCH Mentored Research Symposium
The inaugural ARCH Mentored Research Symposium was held on November 17, 2022 hosted by the Department of Public Health at the California State University, East Bay.
The symposium featured 22 presentations from trainees with more than 70 attendees in person or on-line. The full program and recordings are available on our Resources page.
The 2023 ARCH Research Symposium will be hosted by Dr. Grace Yoo and colleagues at San Francisco State University.

Tung Nguyen, MD, has accepted the role of UCSF associate vice chancellor for Research – Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Anti-Racism (AVC Research – IDEA). The role of the AVC Research – IDEA is to ensure that diversity, equity, and inclusion are embedded throughout the UCSF research enterprise through policies, practices, and value alignment toward developing a research environment that proactively addresses racism and all aspects of inequity and discrimination.
