Director of Research, Health Research for Action; Professor, School of Public Health | UC Berkeley

I am Director of Research at Health Research for Action, an affiliated research center of University of California, Berkeley. I am also Adjunct Professor in the Division of Community Health Sciences, and teach medical students in the UCB-UCSF Joint Medical Program at UCB School of Public Health. My research focus is health and healthcare disparities/inequities with a key interest in chronic disease risks in immigrant groups to the US, particularly Asian American groups. I have studied cardiovascular risks among South Asians, diabetes and health coaching for Chinese people living with diabetes, and colorectal cancer screening among South Asians in California. I have also examined the needs of older adults and caregivers who are Chinese, Vietnamese, and Filipino in the SF Bay Area. A current key interest is training undergraduate students as health coaches for people with hypertension.
