I am Professor of Medicine in the UCSF Division of General Internal Medicine, School of Medicine. I am committed to understanding how best to provide quality medical care across language barriers, including increasing access to professional interpreter services, and improving communication in the course of breast cancer care and for chronic conditions in primary care. I have expertise in survey-based research, pragmatic trials, and practice-based research. I am the Director for the Center on Aging in Diverse Communities, a National Institutes of Health funded center committed to promoting and supporting the careers of early-stage underrepresented researchers, and to eliminating health disparities for diverse aging populations. I also direct the Multiethnic Health Equity Research Center, a center of the Division of General Internal medicine committed to applied research to investigate and promote health equity in healthcare settings and communities.
